– Press Release –
Mr. Ray Jones, a strong friend of the Liberian community in Columbus was the keynote speaker at Liberia’s 162nd Independence Day Gala. Mr. Jones, a gifted and charismatic public speaker spoke eloquently on the topic “The Consequences of Forgetting Where You Came From and the Character It Takes to Build a Nation.” During his address in which he kept the audience spellbound, Mr. Jones sprinkled his remarks with Biblical references about our reliance on God and the consequence of not bearing fruit as exemplified by Jesus’ curse of the fig tree.
Mr. Jones admonished Liberians that in order to build a nation, its people must avoid corruption, greed, and selfishness. “We in the United States must be committed to improving the lives of those less fortunate in our country, Liberia. We must encourage and motivate the young among us to volunteer their time and talents in service to our country“. He wondered out loud why so many of our young people don’t show interest in the history and culture of their native land, Liberia. They don’t know the meaning of the national anthem or the history of the Liberian people’s struggle for democracy.
